What an end to the term.

As I said in my APP message, SBC announced late this morning that all schools should close due to the weather warning and we should offer online learning.  Luckily, we are used to having Teams and the children are very good at using online learning.

Thank you for being supportive and trying to organise the home/school links quickly, it is very much appreciated.

    Parent Governors

As you are aware, we had vacancies for parent governors to join the board as our parent governors come to the end of their term.  Firstly, I would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Cantellow, who has served the school as parent governor over the past few years.  She has agreed to stay on to help our new parent governors settle in but she has truly been an asset to the school's leadership team and I would like to thank her for her service - you are a star 🤩

Mrs Vickers is moving from parent governor to a co-opted governor to continue her service to the governing board - thank you for your support 🤩

Therefore, we had two parents apply for the role of parent governors, both have been elected and will start their induction process with the school so that they are up and running ready for the next round of meetings.

The role of parent governors is crucial to the school as parents, who are the primary educators of their children, should be involved in their child’s education. Whilst parent governors are elected to provide a parental perspective, they do not act as representatives of the parents who attend the school.  But their insight and perspective are essential in shaping the values that underpin the culture, strategy, policies and procedures of our school.

So, our new parent governors are: Ms Hannah Court and Mr Graeme Leighfield - welcome to our board of governors and I look forward to working with you.

    In other news...

We now break for 1/2 term, so you can relax from the day to day pressure of getting everything ready.  Please make sure that your child reads a couple of times over the course of the week and does some times tables, arithmetic or number bonds, depending on the age of your child.

We return to school on Monday 28th February 2022.

    TD Day

As parents may be aware, we have one more Teacher Development day to place in the diary.  Staff have to do some nurse training and I am trying to book this in for either Monday 16th or Monday 23rd May 2022.  I am just waiting for the school nurse to get back to me to confirm the dates and I will let you know.

    Change to Christmas Term Dates

Thank you to everyone who completed the survey about changing the school term dates so that we break slightly later for Christmas.  71% of parents are in favour of changing the dates, therefore, the next step in the process is for me to submit the rationale and data to Swindon Borough Council for a decision to be made.  Governors were in favour of changing the school dates also.  As soon as the decision is made, I will let you all know and set the year dates for 2022-2023.

Thank you very much for all your support over the course of this term.  I do hope you have a wonderful half term break.  If your child does test positive over the half-term break, please let me know using head@chiseldon.swindon.sch.uk. I will check my emails on a daily basis to answer any concerns around COViD.  If your query is about anything else, I will respond when we return on Monday 28th February.

Have a super time and I will see you all on Monday 28th February from 08:25.

Just a little picture to make you smile today.

    Fri 11 Feb 2022 Mr A

I hope you have had a great week?  I know here at school we have been learning lots of different things, from adapting words in our sentence stacking to learning how we keep ourselves safe whilst online.  On Tuesday, the children took part in Internet Safety Day...Ask your child the four top tips to keep them safe whilst online.

Parent/Child meetings next week.  If you have not signed up for a meeting, please make sure you do this asap.  You would have been sent an email (so check junk) from notifications@primarysite.net. This is not spam, this is from our website.

Next week is our final week of the term, therefore, the school will close at 1pm on Friday 18th February.  We come back to school on Monday 28th February 2022.

I will be answering emails concerning COViD only over the half-term break, so if you do test positive, please let me know using head@chiseldon.swindon.sch.uk and I will respond as quickly as possible.  All other emails will be responded to on our return on Monday 28th February.

    Sat 05 Feb 2022 Mr A

Thank Crunchie, it's Friday! (although I posted this today, Saturday).  What a week.  Mr H and I have enjoyed cooking all week but it was lovely to see our Chef and Kitchen assistant back on Friday, working their magic for a lovely sausage and chip lunch.

We are now back fully staffed (touch wood) that is how it will stay as we lead into the final two weeks of term.  Let us hope that we as we now come into the end of the winter months, so COViD will have less of an impact across the school.

    Parent/Child Meeting

During the last week of term, Tuesday & Wednesday, it is our parent/child meetings to discuss how things have gone over the course of the term for your child.  We will also comment on behaviour, COViD impact, and what they need to do next - so please make sure that you book an appointment once these are released.

These meetings in November, and February, along with the reports in December, April and July is how we keep you up-to-date with your child's progress.
