Welcome back to the 4th term of Year 6 - where did the time go? We are now half way through the academic year and have a really busy 6 week term ahead of us!
Further to the 'Mock SATs' Week at the end of last term, we will have a focus on preparing for the actual SATs across this term. We aim to build on the successes and learning from our mocks. This will impact the timetable and homework will be both Maths and SPaG related. Due to this focus, we will not be embarking on a new topic this term, so we will continue learning about the European Union during these lessons. Almost on a daily basis we are seeing many twists and turns on the road to 'Brexit': we will watch and learn with bated breath! This term also sees our annual Science Week, Shakespeare Week and a visit from our German penpals - it is a very packed time in Year 6.
This term we will be ice skating on Tuesday afternoons so PE will take place on a more ad-hoc basis around all our other curriculum learning. It is,therefore, important to ensure your children have their full PE kit in school daily as well as trainers every day for the Mile Run. Music will continue with trumpet lessons on a Tuesday once we return from ice skating.
This term's 48 spellings are still listed below so please encourage your children to work on these over the duration of the term. In addition to these words, we will be revisiting the spelling patterns and rules from Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 on a daily basis. Weekly spelling tests wil relate to these patterns.
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me via the link above and I will respond within 48 hours. I am available at the beginning and the end of the day for quick queries, however, it is ususally advisable to arrange an appointment for anything more in-depth as it isn't always possible to speak when the children have arrived for the day.
