    Fri 24 Jun 2022 Mr A

This term seems to be flying past and we will soon be at the end of the summer term.  This week, the children in Y1, Y3, Y4 and Y5 have been completing their assessments that aid our teacher assessments so that we can complete the end-of-year reports.  The end-of-year reports are due out on the 14th of July 2022, you should receive these by email, so please ensure that your email is up-to-date with the office.

Next Wednesday sees the start of our transition days.  This is the day your child will find out who their teacher next year will be and begin to do some work so that all our pupils are ready for next year.  If your child is in Y6 and going to Ridgeway, they will attend Ridgeway next Thursday and Friday.  They do not come into school but go directly to Ridgeway as if they have started there in September.  If your child is attending a different secondary school, we have not heard when they are thinking about transition.

Next week also sees our Y1 pupils performing their class assembly on Wednesday.  This starts at 14:45 and parents are more than welcome to come into school and see the class perform.  We do allow photos and videos as long as these are not on social media unless you have zoomed in on your own child and do not have any other pupil in the photo.

We are building up to our summer fair, so thank you if you have donated things for our raffle.  There will be a BBQ, music and some fun things to do whilst you are on site.  The summer fair is scheduled for Friday 8th July and this will lead into our annual camp out on the school field - more details to follow next week.

    Attendance

The winning class with 99.37% is Year 5.  Well done for being in school and achieving a high percentage.

    Doodle Maths

If you have not linked to your child's Doodle Maths account, please do so.  This will help you track what your child is learning, help with homework, ask for help from the Doodle team if required and make sure that your child is completing their homework through email updates.

Our aim at the school is to make sure that children are always in the green zone.   This means little but often.  We are not worried about stars as we want our pupils to enjoy maths and grow in confidence.

We celebrate the top doodling class each week and this week's winners with 100% of pupils in the green zone, is Year 5.  Well done to all the children in Year 5 for doodling every day.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

    Fri 10 Jun 2022 Mr A

What a fantastic week at school with all children enjoying the celebrations for our Queen's jubilee.  The children are well underway creating their DT projects of recycling a shoe and making it into something that shows how we celebrate 70 years of service.  The children have also begun to paint the pebbles that will create our jubilee path across the front of the school, where the trench has been prepared.

As you may be aware our Year 6 pupils are off to Berlin next week accompanied by Mr Hatcliffe, Mrs Hughes and myself.  If you have any concerns or questions, please direct them to Mrs Embling or Mr Timlin, the senior leadership team staying at school.  If you worry is around safeguarding, please see Miss Dickson or Mrs Jenkins who sit on our inclusion team and they will be able to deal with all concerns.

The winning house this week is: St. Patrick - well-done everyone in this house.

    2nd place: St. Andrew

    3rd place: St. David

    4th place: St. Geroge

To build on how effective our housepoint system is, I have set a competition for all the children.  It is worth 100 housepoints for 4 winners.  One from each house.  On an A4 piece of paper, the children have been asked to design a flag for their house.  It must reflect the Saint that the house is named after and must then reflect Chiseldon to bring it back to our school.

This will then be made into flags - one on a stick so that the house captain can lead their team to assemblies or sports events and another to fly on our flag pole outside for the winning house each week.  The children have a couple of weeks to draw/create their flag.  the top 5 in each house will then be voted for by staff and children before going to the printers to have it made.

    Attendance

This week's winners with 99%, is Year 6 - brilliant job well done for being in school every day.

Whole school attendance is: 94.4%, which is not bad considering that we had two outbreaks at the beginning of the year.  Keep up the good work for the final 6 weeks of term.

    Transition Days

I have decided like last year, we are going to have whole school transition days at school so that children get to work with next year's teachers before we break for the summer holiday.  The transition days will be on a Wednesday and they will work with the teacher for the entire day.  The dates for our transition are Wednesday 29th June and Wednesday 6th, 13th July 2022.  It will be extremely important for your child to be in school so that they do not miss this excellent opportunity to help them settle.

I hope that you have had a great weekend and I am sorry that this is rather late.

    Mr A
