    Fri 25 Nov 2022 Mr A

I am not sure where this week has gone.  I am sending a virtual hug to all our pupils who currently have chicken pox.  I hope that you are not feeling too poorly with this and are looking forward to being back in school.

I am really pleased to share a link to a book titled, Auntie Margie, Onion Bhaji by Paul Patel (a parent of our school).  How exciting: Children's Book by Paul Patel

I am just looking at ways we can present the children's work that have achieved during our sharing assembly so that you are able to see the high quality work that the children are presenting.  You can see Esther's writing and Hunter's artwork by clicking Here: Sharing Assembly 25.11.2022  It would be good to have some feedback about presenting pupil’s work like this and if you find it beneficial.

    Spots, spots and more spots...

Thank you to everyone who helped out and joined in with Children in Need, especially during the most challenging of financial times.

New app messages.  I know that some of you are finding the new app messages very brief.  This is because we are only allowed 160 characters, which includes spaces.  Therefore, I have written all the achievement and behaviour messages - the idea behind these messages is that you talk to your child about what they have achieved, a good starting point for talking about their day or you discuss why they have been given a warning.

In regards to warnings, please remember that your child does know and understand the language that is used in the message, as firstly they would have had a reminder about the rule that they are not following, eg: Do we defy teachers at Chiseldon Primary School?  Thank you for listening (the class teacher would then have explained what defy/defiance means).  If you receive the message: Your child has received a warning for defiance - please discuss this at home. They will have understood what they have done.

However, we do understand that sometimes, children do not want to confess what they have done or they may have forgotten what they have done after a long day.  If that is the case, you can either leave it and speak to the class teacher at drop off/pick up, or you can go on the website and complete the form on the class page and this goes directly to the class teacher and they will respond with a detailed explanation via email.

I know that social media and WhatsApp are effective ways of checking things through and discussing things but if you do have a concern or want something explained, please see me at the gate or email or call, as a 5-10 minute conversation with me or Mr H can decrease the stress and frustration that having a 2/3 hour conversation over WhatsApp can have on us.

I pride our school on effective communication but I understand that during this transition time, it has not been as good as it should be or has been.  I am now hoping that you are kept up-to-date as much as possible through my weekly blog, app messages, or indeed emails.  I am asking all staff that if they send you an email, can they please send a quick app message so that you know an email has been sent.  This way, it will make sure that you are getting all the information that we need.  Please remember to update your information in the app if your email or telephone number should change.

    Fri 11 Nov 2022 Mr A

What an amazing end to the week!  Our children were exceptional at the Cenotaph.  They were courteous, kind, polite and above all, respectful.  Thank you so much Oscar and Esther for taking on the responsibility of laying the school reef to remember all those that have died and thank you to the Y6 children who shared their heartfelt poems.

If you didn't hear them or see them, Father Roger will be displaying these in the church ready for the Sunday service which starts at 10:45.

If you haven't managed to listen to my podcast, you can access it here HTs Podcast - Homework I am going to be releasing another podcast throughout the term, the next being about reading for fluency.

I thought it would also be a lovely idea for the Head boy and Head girl to start thinking about creating a podcast of their own.  Once they have learnt about them, they will have a go at recording their first one.  I'll let you know when it will be released.

    Fri 04 Nov 2022 Mr A

    Welcome back.

I hope that you had a lovely break and are now ready for the build-up to Christmas, I know, I've said the C word.  Christmas in school begins on December 1st when our Christmas tree arrives in school.  You can see all the Christmas celebration activities on the school calendar, which can be found on the website or the old-school app.

    School APP

Although we have switched apps for communication, messages, reporting an absence, and keeping your details up to date; we are still giving you access to the old app for quick reference to the HT blog, calendar, and website.  It means you can have both apps.  We are not paying for the communication aspect of the old app as it was becoming too expensive and we get the new app as part of our registration system.

If you have not downloaded the new app yet, you are looking for ScholarPack Parents in your app provider.  Once you have downloaded the app, you will need a code that was sent out in an email.  If you cannot find the email, drop me an email and I can send over the access code for you.
