WOHOHOOHO!!! We came fifth out of 21 schools in the Emile Spelling Competition! All the children deserve credit, but especially Hashan, who scored more than 3,000 correct answers! Well done!
What a super week full of Science! First we found out about space scientist, Maggie Aderin Pocock. She struggled at school with dyslexia and moved schools 13 times. Her parents always supported her to follow her dreams.
Maggie felt that she would be happy out in space where race or colour doesn’t matter and our planet can be seen as a sphere, without boundaries.
During her studies, she often found that she was the only black female in the room, but this just made her more determined to succeed. After 7 years, she left university with qualifications in physics and engineering.
She has presented TV programmes including ‘CBeebies Stargazing’ and has written lots of books. In 2009, Maggie was given a very special award by the Queen for everything she has done to educate people about science.
Maggie’s message to everyone is ‘Have a crazy dream and overcome obstacles!’
We planted iris bulbs, used light bulbs to make circuits and tested insulators and conductors.
