Swimming
As part of the PE curriculum, pupils are required to partake in swimming lessons. At Chiseldon we take pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 for a term of swimming each year, to Ridgeway School pool.
Here the pupils learn to:
- swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]
- perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
We are members of the School Swimming Charter, which is in partnership with the ASA (Amateur Swimming Association) and follow the 'Aquatics in the National Curriculum' scheme where pupils develop skills and gain awards as they progress in their learning. There is then the opportunity to purchase certificates and badges for the awards the pupils have achieved at the end of the term.
