Celebrating a Fabulous Week at School
02-10-2026Big Efforts, Big Ideas & Making a Difference!
It has been another busy and purposeful week at Chiseldon, with children across the school demonstrating our HEART values through their learning, determination and thoughtful contributions to important discussions. From assessment week to water safety and environmental responsibility, there has been plenty to celebrate.
Year 3 and Year 4 have been working incredibly hard during assessment week. The children have approached their assessments with focus, resilience and perseverance, taking the time to demonstrate what they have learnt and the progress they have made. We are proud of the positive attitudes they have shown, particularly when faced with challenges. Assessments are a valuable opportunity for children to recognise how far they have come and help teachers identify the next steps in their learning. Well done to both year groups for their fantastic efforts!
This week, we also came together for an important live online assembly about Benedict's Law. The assembly explored why the law is in place and the importance of understanding allergies and the potential risks they can pose in everyday situations. We heard directly from a pupil about his own experiences of living with allergies and what this means for him both in and around school. Hearing a first-hand account helped bring the message to life and encouraged us all to think about how our actions can affect others. It was a valuable reminder of the importance of awareness, understanding and looking out for one another. These discussions help us build a school community where every child feels safe, understood and supported.
Year 6 have continued to make excellent progress in their swimming sessions, with a focus on developing speed and refining their technique. This week, the children practised their push-offs from the pool wall to help generate greater speed through the water. They also worked on performing a flat dive into a front crawl, swimming halfway down the pool while maintaining their technique and momentum. It has been great to see the children building their confidence, responding to feedback and pushing themselves to improve. Their determination to refine their skills is fantastic to see!
Year 5 have been exploring an important issue that affects us all: plastic pollution and the need for change. They welcomed Mr Hinton, a local parish councillor, to hear their ideas and discuss the changes they believe are needed to tackle plastic pollution. It was wonderful to see the children engaging with a real-world issue, sharing their thoughts and recognising that their voices can make a difference. Opportunities like this help pupils understand how local decisions are made and how individuals and communities can work together to protect our environment. We are proud of Year 5 for showing such curiosity, confidence and a willingness to stand up for something they believe in.
As always, it has been encouraging to see our children learning not only through their classroom experiences but also through opportunities to develop empathy, responsibility and an understanding of the wider world. Whether persevering through assessments, learning how to keep others safe or speaking up about environmental issues, our pupils continue to show what it means to live out our HEART values.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We hope you all have a lovely weekend, and we look forward to another positive week of learning and achievement at Chiseldon!
