Celebrating a Fabulous Week at School

What a week at Chiseldon — with a tiny punctuality pep talk!
It’s been a proper hummus-and-humour week (yes, that’s a thing) — thank you all for everything you’ve done to make it sparkle.
- European Day of Languages was a colourful success again. Classrooms sounded like a very polite orchestra of “bonjour”, “hola” and “hallo” — and far fewer attempts at dragon roars than I expected. The children loved learning about their chosen countries and trying new words. Well done, everyone.
- Huge thanks to the adults who helped on the Year 5 trip to Bowood. Mud, curiosity and brilliant questions were in plentiful supply. The children returned exhausted in the best possible way — full of stories and slightly fewer biscuits than they left with.
- Today Y5 and Y6 met an author. There’s something magical about meeting the person who builds the worlds we read about — though, for health and safety reasons, the dragon from page 137 did not accompany them. Thank you to families and staff for supporting these visits; they bring our curriculum to life.
A quick note about being in school on time (and why it matters)
- School gates open at 08:25 and this is when registration starts. Come in, drop coats, say hello to your friends — and if you’re an early bird, there’s time for a little handwriting practice, a quick arithmetic warm-up or reading a page of a book. These small habits build big learning muscles.
- Gates close at 08:45. If your child arrives after 08:45 they will receive a late mark.
- If your child arrives after 08:50 they will be recorded with a U code (unauthorised absence) because they have missed the start of the session. We don’t want anyone to get a U code — it’s a record for official data and can affect attendance monitoring — so please aim for the 08:25–08:45 window where possible.
We understand mornings can be tricky sometimes. If you’re struggling with punctuality, please talk to us — we’ll be understanding and practical (sometimes a second alarm or a different breakfast helps!). Where needed, we’ll work with families to find solutions so pupils don’t miss those small but important learning starts.
