Mr S Allen

Headteacher & Designated Safeguarding Lead

I have been privileged to work in education for over 30 years, gaining experience across a variety of schools. Since 2013, I have been the Headteacher at Chiseldon Primary & Nursery School, where I took on the challenge of leading the school out of a continuous Requires Improvement grading to achieve and maintain a Good rating by Ofsted since November 2014.

My educational philosophy is simple but powerful: education should be fun, inspiring, and tailored to meet the needs of every pupil. I firmly believe that education is a right, not a privilege, and that our school should provide an education that is as good as, if not better than, many private schools. This belief drives everything we do at Chiseldon.

Leadership, to me, means creating a positive and enriching school culture where all pupils can thrive. I am committed to upholding our school values—Honesty, Equality, Accountability, Respect, and Trust—which together form the HEART of Chiseldon. I work closely with my senior and middle leaders to ensure that we provide high-quality teaching, especially in foundational areas like literacy and numeracy, and that we use evidence-informed approaches such as systematic synthetic phonics to support early reading.

I believe in fostering strong partnerships with our school community. We have an open-door policy where parents and carers can speak with class teachers, the SENCo, Deputy Headteacher, or myself at the start and end of the day. For matters needing more time, we encourage booking appointments to ensure thorough and focused discussions.

As a headteacher, I hold myself to the highest standards of professional conduct and ethical leadership. I am dedicated to continuous professional development, not only for myself but for all staff, ensuring that we remain responsive to the latest educational research and best practises. My role is to provide the conditions in which teachers can excel and pupils can achieve their full potential.

Together with our governance team, we are custodians of the school’s vision and strategic direction, ensuring that every child at Chiseldon receives an education that prepares them well for their next phase of learning and life.

I have worked in education for 14 years and was inspired to teach by my amazing teacher, Mr John, whose ability to be relatable while delivering inspiring lessons left a lasting impression on me. I am passionate about helping learners feel safe, valued, and motivated to achieve their absolute best.

My approach to education is rooted in the belief that learning should be fun. Every child thrives when they are happy, relaxed, and understood — and I firmly believe that success looks different for every learner. As a leader, I prioritise wellbeing for both learners and staff, encouraging everyone to bring their authentic, positive selves into the classroom. When teachers enjoy what they do, children naturally respond with enthusiasm and engagement.

As SENCo and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, I ensure that every child’s individual needs are recognised and supported. Small adjustments can make a huge difference, and I am dedicated to creating inclusive environments where all learners can learn comfortably and confidently alongside their peers.

My own son, who has a range of needs, has deepened my understanding and empathy as both an educator and a parent. This personal connection drives me to support children and families with care, honesty, and practical guidance — always striving to make a positive difference within the school’s capacity.

Outside of school, I am a proud dad of two and love spending time outdoors. You’ll often find me kayaking or paddleboarding — my favourite ways to relax and recharge. I also enjoy running daily with my son to keep fit, and we share a love of travelling and discovering new cultures together.

Hello! I’m a passionate teacher with a love for the Early Years Foundation Stage, and my journey into teaching began in the most unexpected way - during a secondary school lesson on molecular bonding! Who would have thought that such a niche topic could ignite a lifelong passion for education? Since that random lesson, I’ve rarely missed a day of school!

I graduated from Canterbury Christ Church University, specialising in Early Years, and have had the pleasure of working in various EYFS settings. It’s a perfect match for my energy! Each day is a wonderful adventure, starting with a song and a dance - because why not?

My experience extends to working within the SEND service, both in schools and with the council, giving me valuable insights into supporting children with special educational needs from the very beginning of their learning journey.

When I’m not in the classroom, you can find me singing and dancing with my two-year-old, although those dance moves are getting trickier as we prepare to welcome a new addition to our family next year! I also enjoy knitting quirky creations, mostly for my little one.

I have been in education for over 20 years and a teacher at Chiseldon for the last 8. I became a teacher as I had an unpleasant encounter with a teacher when I was in Year 5. My love for school was affected and I wanted to become a teacher so no child felt like I did. This has lead me to become the Senior Mental Health Lead and develop my skills to support all children who attend the school.  I like to believe that most if not all the children here would be comfortable talking to me should they need. Hobbies outside school include travelling and eating out. Both I enjoy more now my own children are grown up!

I have been teaching for 13 years and have been at Chiseldon for 12 years. I began teaching in year 5 and then found a love for KS1 and have been in year 1 and year 2 for the last 11 years. When I was at secondary school someone told me that I would make a good teacher and ever since then, that is what I aspired to be. I am part of the Humanities team here at Chiseldon and have a passion for History.

Outside of school I am a mum of two, I enjoy a good book and a meal out. I am also a Bath Rugby fan and enjoy catching as many games as I can.

I first joined Chiseldon as a student teacher during the Covid period, an experience that shaped me both personally and professionally. In 2022, I was delighted to come back to Chiseldon—this time as a full member of the teaching staff. My journey into teaching began long before my time here. I was inspired by my own Year 5 teacher, whose enthusiasm, kindness, and belief in her pupils made a lasting impression on me.
Outside of school, music plays a huge part in my life. I enjoy playing a variety of instruments, singing, and writing my own music. Whether I’m experimenting with new melodies or practising familiar pieces, music helps me relax and stay creative. I often find that the joy and expression I get from music inspire my teaching as well, bringing energy and creativity into the classroom.

I have been teaching since 1995 in a variety of settings, including private, two form entry and supply.  Joining Chiseldon helped me realise that being in the classroom full time is what made me happiest.  Each year group is unique and many times I have been asked, what is my favourite age group?  Although it sounds sentimental, I think they are all fantastic for such different reasons.  I am an advocate for having zealous visitors and taking children on trips outside of school as they are truly wonderful experiences! They open up a world of learning beyond the classroom, sparking curiosity and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Outside of school my husband and I take every opportunity to go on holiday.  A few years ago, we travelled clockwise around the world, spending time in Thailand, China, Australia, New Zealand and America.  Recently, we have enjoyed time in Singapore, Bali, Maldives, Lisbon and Maderia.  When I retire, the goal is to travel around the world in the opposite direction!

I have been working in schools for the last 20 years and for the last 8 years I have been a teacher in Key Stage 2 here at Chiseldon. I became a teacher because I was told in pre-school I was destined to be a teacher, whilst I was talking and organising others. I have a degree in English as I have a passion for reading and language. This has led me to be the English lead for the last six years here at Chiseldon and I hope to inspire the same passion for reading in others.  Outside of school I have two grown up children and a dog called Rolo.  We enjoy movie nights, fine dining and fabulous holidays.  My latest passion is K-Pop!

Hello! I’m delighted to share a bit about myself. I started my journey at Chiseldon in 2016, opening our new nursery and embarking on a mission to inspire young children. As a Teaching Assistant, my aim is to show them that school can be a fun experience, while also encouraging resilience and independence.

Outside of the classroom, I’m a proud mother of two boys who both play professional ice hockey. Watching them pursue their passions brings me immense joy! Before diving into the world of education, I was a professional dancer, and I still find time to dance whenever I can – it keeps my spirits high and adds a little rhythm to my life!

I started working at Chiseldon as an MDSA after my admin job came to an end. I’d never worked in a school before, but having 3 young children at the time, this role worked for me. I absolutely loved coming to work and I loved the children, leaving every day with a smile on my face. I started helping in the EYFS and was offered a full time role and proceeded to do my NVQ.

Everyday is so rewarding, seeing the children learn and develop is just wonderful. They make me laugh so much, as do my colleagues and I absolutely love it!

In my free time I love to go on walks with my puppy Pebbles. I love animals so you will often catch me saying hello to the sheep by the washpool or a robin in a tree!

I began my journey at Chiseldon Primary School six years ago as an Early Years assistant and quickly developed a deep passion for my role, the children I worked with, and the supportive school community. Motivated to strengthen my knowledge and skills, I returned to college to enhance my understanding of how best to support both pupils and staff. After successfully completing my qualification, I progressed into my current role as a specialised Early Years Educator.
I am now attending university and working towards gaining my teaching status within the next couple of years. I feel incredibly proud to be part of Chiseldon Primary School and to contribute to the positive and nurturing environment we offer our children.

I’ve been part of Chiseldon Primary and Nursery School for two years, and I feel incredibly proud of the role I play here. Supporting children as they learn and flourish is something I’m truly passionate about, and I love being part of their daily progress and achievements.
I am currently completing my Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, which is helping me build my skills and understanding of how to best support our pupils. My next goal is to continue my studies at university, working towards my Level 5 qualification and eventually gaining QTS so I can further develop my career in education.Outside of school, I enjoy travelling and exploring new cultures and environments. I find that these experiences broaden my perspective and help me bring a calm, open-minded approach to my work with children.  Being part of the Chiseldon school community is something I value greatly, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to the wonderful learning environment we create together.

I try to do everything I'm asked to do!  Mainly driving the minibus to collect and deliver children to school, being diligent eyes during swimming, transporting teams to sports events, class day trips, faciliating inclusion of all pupils to events like visiting Holy Cross Church at Christmas.  I also enjoy being an MDSA where I can play in the different zones of OPAL, plus after school care where I inspire pupils to complete craft and art activities.  I started at Chiseldon in September 2014 after 23 years at Ridgeway School.  I have been a volunteer for the NSPCC for five years, running drop in centres and going away with children with SEND.  Outside of school, I spend quality time with my family, pets and organising Rainbows, where girls can learn new skills and badges in themes such as camping, communication and first aid.

I've been a stay at home mum to my five children until my last child attended school full time.  They are my world, I applied to volunteer in a nursery and found that looking after children was where my heart is.  I worked in a kitchen part time as well which I enjoyed but it wasn't until I moved to Chiseldon and applied for a part time MDSA and realised that I enjoyed every minute of looking after children, I was also then offered a job in the afterschool care where I loved laughing with the children and helping them just relaxing after school by doing some colouring, painting or even watching a film playing a game of football and asking them about their day.  I've had first hand experience of getting through everyday and making a positive attitude for the children after having five of my own.

I have wanted to work in education ever since my teachers pointed out that I had the ambition, enthusiasm, and creativity to help shape the lives of our younger generations and to be a fundamental part of their learning journey.

My personal goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where children feel encouraged to try new things and celebrate their achievements no matter how big or small and for them to feel comfortable asking for help.Working in this school reminds me every day just how much the little victories matter, and it’s those moments that make this role so rewarding.Outside of school, I enjoy spending time in nature, whether that’s going for walks, exploring new places, or simply enjoying the outdoors and how much it can impact to calm situations. It’s big and open world out there with an opportunity around every corner!

My Happy Mind Testimonial

Good morning Mr Allen,

I just wanted to say what a fantastic programme this is, Olivia has been telling us all about the hippocampus, including what it does and where it is! It gave us a good laugh when she brought it up at the dinner table the other night.

Kind regards,
