This week we have been investigating 3D shape. We went on a shape hunt around the school and looked at what shapes we could see. The children really enjoyed looking for shapes and naming them. We spoke about using the correct names for the 3D shapes, cube, cuboid, sphere, pyramid, cylinder and cone. We also looked at the properties of the individual shapes, the faces and vertices. We also have been investigating the numbers 6, 7 and 8 and how to make these numbers using the part, part, whole method.
We have finished our book talk book, Chicken Licken and have been looking at what FANTASTICS we can see as we re-read it with the children reading out loud. We have been writing what day of the week it is for our morning task and thinking about the letters and sounds in each of the days. We also have been writing questions for the PCSO visit, so lots of reading and writing going on.
We are re-visiting sounds that the children are not secure in as all the initial code has been taught. We have been word building and sound swapping and there are some videos on Twitter showing the children doing this. Some children did some excellent dictation with one sentence having eleven words in it!
We also had or first spelling check this week, with the children really enjoying showing off the learning they have done at home. Spellings run from Thursday to Thursday giving the children a full week to look at them at home and school.
We were very lucky to have PCSO turner from Wiltshire Police visit us this week. The children asked her the questions we had written during Writing and even got to sit in a Police car and turn the sirens on.
