This week has seen new reading books home and also introducing spellings for the children to practice and learn. Thank you for the positive feedback regarding both the new books and the spellings. By becoming fluent with these early reading books the children will be able to decode longer and phonetically harder words as they go on.
In phonics this week we have recapped some sounds that the class needed revisiting. We have been writing simple sentences using words built during our phonic lessons helping the children to remember them by putting them into a sentence.
In Maths we have been looking at the many ways to make 5 and 6 and will be moving onto 7 and 8 next week. We have also begun to look at time with learning the days of the week and writing what day it is and what day it will be tomorrow.
Chinese New Year has also been looked at with the children looking at how Chinese people write numbers and having a go at it themselves. The children then wrote number sentences to make 5 in Chinese!
We went outside and looked at the frost and why in some areas it had not melted and in others it had. We also looked at our shadows and how where the sun was affected the length of our shadow.
