Each class will be producing a weekly blog for the term.
We will start with Y4, who will be blogging away from April 23rd
Finally, in science we were looking at the human digestive system. We also got to answer question to see how much we could remember.
In Maths today we were identifying where mistakes are located in lines of symmetry. Then we got to complete silver or gold worksheets. We get to decide on which sheet we would like to complete.
Thursday 16th May 2019. In book talk we were looking at an analytic question. Some of the children helped but giving ideas to the whole class.
We had a lot of fun today in English. We got to design our very own golden tickets.
In maths today we were looking at lines of symmetry in different patterns.
Wednesday 15th May 2019. In book talk, we were using the question matrix to try and get deeper in our book 'The firework - makers daughter'.
In English today we continued with our story 'Charlie and the chocolate factory'. We got to write about finally seeing Mr Willy Wonka. Mr Bagley wrote a sentence on the board and we still got to beat his.
After book talk we had maths. This was a lot of fun. We were continuing with line of symmetry and showing the whole class where they are in different shapes. Then we had to prove it to Mr. Bagley that we knew so, we draw different shapes and put the lines of symmetry in.
Tuesday 14th May 2019. This morning in book talk we were working in our groups to answer different statements that were on the board.
Finally, we finished our topic lesson from last week and we got to see what it would be like inside a prison. It is very dark, depressing and lonely. We all agreed that we would not want to go inside one and the only way to make sure we don't is to not break the law.
In values we were looking at 'Rule of law', which is similar to our topic. We were discussing why we have rules and why these became laws. Also we got to watch a video to see what would happen if we didn't have any rules.
Moving on to English. We needed a little bit of help editing our work. We worked as a class to try and find out how many mistakes were in a paragraph. We were guessing, 7 maybe 8. Someone guessed 10 which made us giggle because we didn't believe their could be that many. But in fact their was 16 mistakes in the paragraph. After seeing this we got to test out a paragraph in our book.
Monday 13th May 2019. We had a lot of fun in Maths today. We were looking at lines of symmetry that are in shapes. How many lines of symmetry does a square have? You might ask. The answer is four.
Finally, we had our spelling test. This test was out of twenty. Most of us got 20/20 which meant we got given 3 house points, this made us really happy.
In Mathematics today, we started with our eight times tables test. Everybody improved from the last time we did this test which made us all really happy. After that we continued looking at: Acute, Obtuse and Right-angles. To identify which shapes have which angles.
Friday 10th May 2019. We started with out morning task. This was to go through our English and Mathematics books to check/respond to feedback.
We finished writing the invitation on the back of our golden ticket in English. Then we got to design our very own Willy Wonka inspired chocolate bar.
In Mathematics today we learn't about the three different types of angles. These were acute, obtuse and right-angle. It became easier through the lesson how to identify which angle is which.
We had a little break after that and danced to 'Prince Ali' from Aladdin. This was so much fun.
Within book talk we wrote in our English books. We wrote about negative relationships that have been shown to us through this book.
After swimming, we had a little bit of time so we talked about our topic 'Crime and punishment'. We were discussing different types of crimes and what we think the punishment should be for them. For example: If someone committed murder then they should be put in prison for the rest of their lives. If someone vandalized, they should get a fine and community service.
English was a lot of fun but very long sentences today. We continued with our story and some of our class got to go up to the board and write key words for everyone to see. We were looking at adjectives, conjunctions, adverbs and alliterations.
In mathematics we were working on different quadrilaterals and different types of triangles. On top of this we were identifying at least one property that defines a certain shape, for example: a parallelogram has two identical opposite angles. (2 Acute angles and 2 obtuse angles)
In book talk we worked in our teams to finish sentences on the board. It's really hard to deepen the moment but easy to use the book to back up our ideas.
When we first came into class this morning we had a fun morning task. We needed to divide a small number by ten or one hundred. This was super easy.
For the warm up in PE we did skipping. The we learnt the hop, skip, jump and mixed them up. We then measured which one took us the furthest. At the end of the lesson we stretched our legs.
In computing we were finding out which way of communicating is the safest: Text, E-mail, Phone or letter. Or is it dependent on how we use technology to communicate, make it either safe or unsafe?
After lunch, we had recorders we were learning the song 'Abie's blues'.
In mathematics today, we were looking at 2-D shapes. But we needed to try and explain which shape is the odd one out. Then we got to go outside and play a game. We needed to match the properties to the quadrilateral.
For our morning exercises we did 'Go-Noodle'. We danced to 'Banana banana meatball' and we got to pick at the end of 'Purple Stew' what we wanted to put in.
We have started reading chapter three today in 'Book talk'. Within this chapter Chualak and Hamlet go off to try and find Lila.
In mathematics today we were looking at three step problems. Using everything we have learn't from simplifying, addition, subtraction, multiplying and dividing fractions to solve.
This afternoon, we got to create a science experiment. We got to put egg shells in cups and add certain liquids to these cups. The idea is, if we don't brush our teeth what would happen to them after a week.
We had a lot of fun in English today continuing on with our 'Charlie and the chocolate factory' story.
In mathematics today we were continuing with equivalent fractions. However, we looked at solving two/three step word problems.
Finally, in topic we finished off our assessed writes from Monday. This was a diary entry about what he had experienced last week in our lesson. We got to sketch a persons face just from having a description, as well as drawing a self portrait.
During English we had gathered a bank of slow adverbs which were placed on the board by a year 4. Afterwards, we had to beat Mr Bagleys setence, "who will beat it?" He questioned. We were writing a sentence about charlie opening a chocolate bar because this terms topic in English is, 'Charlie and the chocolate factory'.
During mathematics today we were; simplifying fractions, adding fractions, subtracting fractions and identifying equivalent fractions. This was to answer word problems that involves us using all of these.
Now we get to do some dancing. We were dancing to the song 'Gangnam Style', the reason we do this is to get our heart pumping and ready for math. At the end of our dancing Mr Bagley picks three children for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Our winners each receive house points.
In guided we are in four groups to discuss a question which is on the board. We reference the book to answer this question and use our classroom question matrix to help us to make our answer even better.
Finally, we had P.E. We have been practicing sprinting techniques. This was really enjoyable but exhausting at the same time. We are super excited for sports day now.
We really are enjoying our recorders lesson, we have take some pictures of year 4 playing recorders. In these pictures your can see year 4 playing the tune 'Mix em up'. We had a great time performing this song.
We went into class today and began reading our book talk book which was 'The firework maker's daughter' by Philip Pullman. We had a variety of readers such as Harry, Laila and Drew.
