Supporting Pupils with Autism, ADHD or AuDHD

At Chiseldon Primary & Nursery School, we draw on current research and best practice to tailor our support for pupils with Autism and ADHD. For pupils with autism, we recognise their strengths in algorithmic thinking and powerful declarative memory systems, as highlighted by OFSTED’s research, and therefore provide systematic, well-sequenced curricula with deliberate rehearsal and extended time to master core facts and methods. For pupils with ADHD, we understand the challenges around attention, executive functioning, and emotional regulation, and implement targeted strategies to enhance focus, organisation, and self-regulation. Our approach is informed by the SEND Code of Practice and frameworks such as the UAE School Inspection Framework, ensuring that individualised planning, specialist support, and curriculum modifications enable all pupils to make expected progress. This research-led, inclusive approach ensures we meet the diverse needs of our pupils while fostering their strengths and well-being.

Understanding ADHD, Autism, and AuDHD

We recognise that pupils may experience neurodevelopmental differences such as ADHD, Autism, or a combination of both (AuDHD). Each condition presents unique challenges and strengths. Our chart opposite highlights these key differences to help parents better understand the needs of their child. We use this understanding to personalise support, ensuring every pupil can thrive in a learning environment that reflects our core values of honesty, equality, accountability, respect, and trust.

My Happy Mind Testimonial

Good morning Mr Allen,

I just wanted to say what a fantastic programme this is, Olivia has been telling us all about the hippocampus, including what it does and where it is! It gave us a good laugh when she brought it up at the dinner table the other night.

Kind regards,

Dan M
