Applying for a School Place at Chiseldon Primary & Nursery School
To apply for a school place at Chiseldon Primary & Nursery School, parents must submit their applications to Swindon Borough Council (SBC) by January each year for children wishing to start in Reception Class during the academic year they turn five. It is important to note that even if your child is currently attending our Nursery, you must still complete the application process with SBC by the specified deadline to secure a place in Reception; failure to do so may result in your child not being guaranteed admission.
For families seeking to join our school during the academic year, an in-year admission application must also be made through SBC. We warmly invite all prospective families to visit our school and experience our vibrant community firsthand. Guided tours led by our Head Boy and Head Girl provide an excellent opportunity to learn about our values and the enriching environment we offer. Additionally, for parents of Nursery children, please complete the online application form indicating your preferred sessions, and we will ensure your application is processed at the school level. We look forward to welcoming you and your child to our school community!

Settling In at Our School
We understand that starting a new school is a significant transition for both pupils and their families. To ensure a smooth and positive experience, we have designed a comprehensive settling-in process that prioritises comfort and familiarity. During the summer term, we hold three transition days, each Wednesday over a three-week period. These days provide every class with the opportunity to meet and work with their new teacher ahead of the September start. This early engagement helps to build relationships and allows pupils to feel more confident as they step into their new classroom environment.
For pupils joining us mid-year, we implement a buddy system to facilitate their integration into the school community. Each new pupil is paired with a buddy who will guide them around the school, helping them to understand the rules and routines. This peer support not only eases anxiety but also fosters friendships and a sense of belonging right from the start.
When children join our Nursery, we ensure a welcoming experience by arranging a stay-and-play activity where our staff can meet with you and your child. This interactive session allows your child to explore the Nursery environment while you engage with our team, ensuring that both you and your child feel prepared for this exciting new adventure. We believe that these thoughtful and structured approaches to settling in create a nurturing atmosphere where every child can thrive and feel at home in our school community.
