This week we have launched into our main curriculum and have begun working on newspaper reports in English (currently linked to Goldilocks' misdemeanours) and Place Value in our Maths lessons. We have been thoroughly enjoying our Class Book, 'Raven's Gate,' at the end of each day: it's quite a gritty tale so far! In Book Talk we have also begun to read, discuss and write about Philip Pullman's spooky story 'Clockwork or All Wound Up'. Who knew time could be quite so dangerous, yet 'deliciously readable'?
In Science we have been focusing on the dangers of electricity. We discussed our ideas about 'commitment' in RE and began to learn about Islam. This week also saw our first swimming session of the year, where the children enjoyed getting back into the pool after the summer break. To end a busy week, we also began our first Mystery Box write of Year 6 which was based on 'Raider's March' by John Williams (more commonly known as the theme music to the Indiana Jones films) so we should have some interesting and very different pieces of creative writing based on this.
Our first certificates were awarded for great attitude and effort in all their work this week as well as two swimming certificates for improvement using advice given. Well done!
It has been a busy week with some fantastic effort, positive attitudes to learning and admirable enthusiasm having taken us a long way to date - there's more to follow next week ...
