W/B 5th September 2016

We just about made it through our first week in Year 1! I am so proud of everyone for making it to Friday without falling asleep. We have had such a busy week recognising numbers, understanding the differences between an adjective and a noun and printing.

In English this week we have been looking at what an adjective is. We figured out that an adjective was a word that described a noun. Miss Smith was really testing us then, as we had to then understand what a noun was. We have completed lots of writing and have had a big focus on how our handwriting should look and what we need to remember in a sentence because we might have forgotten after having 6 weeks off!

In Maths at the beginning of the week we were looking at reading and writing our numbers to 20 which we were very good at. We then started to look at number bonds to 20. Unfortunately we had forgotten our number bonds to 10 so we found this a little bit tricky. It would be great if we could practice these at home! We also completed our first big maths beat that test and challenge and Miss Smith was so impressed at how well we did!

In topic this week we used fruit and vegetables to print and we looked at the difference between Victorian food and food today. It was really interesting and we got quite messy completing our paintings.

We had our first ukuleles lesson on Friday. DJ was very impressed at how we did and we learnt about all the different parts of the instruments!

Mr Coward and I have had a lovely first week with you all and we are very proud of you for making it through such a long first week. Remember we have PE on Monday so please bring your PE kit in for the whole week.

Have a lovely weekend!

Miss Smith and Mr Coward :)
