It has been another incredible week in Year 1 and everyone has been working really hard!
In English we have started to look at how to write a story. We looked at the different features of a story and then worked on how to describe a setting using adjectives. We also looked at how to use fantastic sentence starters. At the end of the week in was mystery box write. Miss Smith and Mr Coward are so impressed with how fantastic some of the stories are!
In Maths this week we have been looking at recognising and interpreting the addition, subtraction and equals symbols. We learnt that when we see an addition symbol, we know that the first number gets bigger and when we see the subtraction symbol the number gets smaller. We had to go on a challenge hunt around the hall and work out loads of problems.
In Science this week we look at what animals are omnivores, carnivores and herbivores. We were all fantastic at knowing what these all meant and we were able to sort the different animals into the right category. We also looked at drawing fruit vegetables and using shading with a pencil. We drew the inside of a fruit or vegetable and tried to see if people could guess what we had drawn.
We also had our class and individual photos taken this week. Once these are ready they will be sent home for you to order if you wish.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I look forward to seeing you on Monday for European Languages Day!! We are doing Italy so if you would like to come dressed in green, red or white you are more than welcome!
Miss Smith :)
